Saidia Children's Home
Saidia Children's Home in Gilgil, Kenya provides a safe haven for up to 60 children who are usually brought to us by the local police. From newborns up to 18 year olds our children live in a family atmosphere and all are in education and help with chores for the household.
Bondeni preschool
In addition, we help support a preschool in the underserved district of Bondeni where we have 75 young children who come for school and food every day.
Graduate programme
Our graduate program has grown and we help support our children who are over 18 to find a degree or certificate course that can lead to employment. Many of our children have now graduated from university and have become teachers, chemists and managers and many now work in trades such as motor mechanics, taxi driving and beauty technology.
Certified staff
The home is staffed by local, professionally certified individuals and 80 per cent of its funding is from two charities, The Saidia Children's Charity (Kenya) in the UK and The Orphan Support League in the USA. All people working for the charities in the UK and USA are volunteers so 95% of all the money donated goes directly to support the home in Kenya. Only 5% is spent on bank and IT costs.
